The ITA Re-inventing Television Summit
September 29 - 30, 2004
Queen Mary, Long Beach California

Every once in a while, in order to move forward-- you need to move back, all the way back to the beginning. That's the idea behind the Re-inventing Television Summit. We are approaching a period of rapid development in the television industry. This is the time to challenge all assumptions, de-construct years of bad habits, and re-build a fresh model with a fresh point of view.

To that end, the ITA is inviting distinguished thought-leaders from design, advertising, distribution and public policy to join the ITV community in a frank and unrestricted discussion of next generation television. The Re-inventing Television Summit will take place on board the Queen Mary, a historic 1930's oceanliner, that is dry-docked in Long Beach Harbor in southern California. All meetings and meals will take place in the original ballrooms and lounges on board the ship. One night's lodging, in a fully-restored state room, is included in the price of admission.

Wednesday evening (5pm - 9pm) will begin with a cocktail reception on deck, inaugurating the evening activities. At 7pm, we'll move into the ball room for a two-hour Roundtable Dinner. The subject will be, "Television: A Platform for Active Democracy". Facilitators will include experts in "e-Government", public policy specialists, and a government official or two. This is a working meal, where members of the ITA University Network (USC, UCLA, Ball State, GA Tech, NYU) will lead the discussion along with our partners at the Center for Government Studies.

Thursday morning (8am - noon) we'll gather the participants for a Roundtable Breakfast discussing all aspects of Interactive TV design and navigation. It will be lead by members of the Interactive Interface Guidelines (IIG) project, consisting of leading experts in production and programming. Following the breakfast, we'll break-out into two workgroups. One for Content and Distribution companies, and one for Advertising and Technology companies.

Thursday afternoon (noon - 4pm) will start with the Advertising Roundtable Lunch, facilitated by the members of the Interactive Advertising Guidelines (IAG) project and our University Network partners. We'll be focusing on creating value for the advertiser. Discussion will include targeting, metrics, and reporting. Then we'll break-out into two groups: one for Advertising and Content companies, and one for Technology and Distribution companies.

Thursday evening (5pm - 9pm) will begin with a Cocktail Reception and move into the final Roundtable Dinner. The subject will be, "Content Distribution in a Digital World: Can We All Get Along? Part II" This is a continuation of our Roundtable Lunch in March about the relationship between cable, satellite, broadband, and digital broadcast. We'll be highlighting leading executives from all four digital platforms.
